I make a conscious decision about who I surround myself with. It’s not an accident, it’s very deliberate. I once heard someone say that we are the average of the five people around us, so who is in your space is incredibly important. I choose positive people, loving people and people who are conscious world citizens seeking to leave the place in better nick than when they arrived here. I love surrounding myself with ‘can do’ people who I can create and work with which allows an amazing amount of positivity that can come out of working together.

Social change, awareness and making a difference are the things that get me out of bed in the morning so when I see ANYONE reaching out and wanting to do something that will make a difference to others and they are putting themselves on the line, I want to be there with them.

Standing up and sticking your head up above the crowd and putting yourself forward is brave. There is no way round it, you need to have courage. You also need to have trust, people around you who believe in what you are doing and big girl knickers/balls (depending on your gender!)

I’ve been watching Alison with a keen interest as she has set up a crowd funding page in order to raise enough money to provide free tickets for parents of children of ADHD to attend her cleverly designed Inspiration Day packed with speakers, resources and a good lunch!

My lovely friend, client and colleague Ellen, heard me talking on the Knowing Your Business radio podcast about it and decided to have the cause as her fundraiser for her own event.

I painted and donated a picture for the event (pictured above with me and the new owner of The Angel Of Light), several people attended, many items were donated for raffle and auction and voilà….nearly £700 was raised to add to the pot when it’s all in and I am in no doubt that that the Inspiration Day is going to be an amazing day for all.

But here’s the thing. What happens when no one decides to host a large event and run the risk of losing money that they really don’t have? What happens if no one creates and gives donation and auction gifts? What then happens if no one attends events where money can be raised? What happens if someone thinks quietly to themselves that ‘someone else will do it’? That’s right. Nothing happens.

What can be even more frustrating is everyone telling you how amazing it will be if you do whatever it is you’re going to do, and then not supporting you to do it! So just do something; it doesn’t matter how big or small, it really isn’t the point. The point is that if every single person decided to just do something, a whole lot of incredible, amazing and life changing stuff would get done!
